Discover Art in the Heart of Lister Park
Located in the award-winning Lister Park, just a mile from Bradford City Centre, Cartwright Hall Art Gallery is home to an exceptional collection of paintings, drawings, and sculptures. The gallery showcases a diverse range of artworks, including pieces by world-renowned artists such as L.S. Lowry, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Anish Kapoor.
Bradford was one of the first UK local authorities to collect works by South Asian and Black artists, making Cartwright Hall a key destination for those interested in diverse and inclusive art.
Visitors can explore the Hockney Gallery, dedicated to Bradford-born artist David Hockney. This space offers a fascinating insight into his life and work, from his early sketches to his vibrant iPad creations.
Opened in 1904, the gallery was built on the former site of Manningham Hall and now forms part of Bradford District Museums & Galleries. It features an exciting programme of temporary exhibitions, alongside permanent displays that offer something for art lovers of all ages.
The Refreshment Room Café, situated in its original 1904 location, is the perfect spot for a break. Enjoy a selection of snacks, cakes, and drinks before continuing your visit.
Lister Park boasts a boating lake, adventure playground, Mughal Gardens, and picturesque walking trails. It holds a Green Flag Award, recognising it as one of the UK’s best-maintained parks.

Cartwright Hall is located in Lister Park, accessible via the A650 Manningham Lane. Parking is available within the park via North Park Road (off Oak Lane). The gallery is well-served by bus routes including 23, 25, 26, 49, 51, 52, 53, 54, 622, 647, 662, and W5. It is also a 10-minute uphill walk from Frizinghall railway station.
