Filey Bird Garden & Animal Park

Filey Bird Garden & Animal Park

About

Opened in 2008, Filey Bird Garden & Animal Park is an award-winning, family-run attraction featuring a diverse mix of animals, nature, exotic birds, and beautifully maintained gardens. Since obtaining a zoo licence in 2017, the collection has expanded to include even more exotic species, with new additions every year.

Visitors can enjoy daily meerkat feeding times, engaging keeper talks, and seasonal animal encounters.

Meet the Animals

The park is home to a wide range of friendly animals in spacious enclosures, from Alpacas to Zebu. The mischievous meerkat mob is among the first animals visitors encounter, with their antics viewable even on rainy days from a covered, heated house.

The reptile house features fascinating species such as a prehistoric Uromastyx lizard and Coral, the albino Corn Snake. On warm days, visitors may also see Josie, the 65-year-old tortoise, roaming alongside rabbits and guinea pigs.

Other highlights include:

  • Playful Tanuki (Raccoon Dogs)
  • The park’s resident Asian Leopard Cat, Jango
  • Rare-breed Ouessant Sheep, the world’s smallest breed
  • Australian Wallabies and Patagonian Mara
  • Miniature Shetland Ponies – Merry & Pippin
  • Lemurs, known for their loud calls
  • Coati, frequently seen climbing above visitors

Exotic Birds & Aviaries

The entrance to the zoo is marked by a lively collection of turkeys, geese, ducks, and chickens. The aviaries house a variety of exotic birds, from tiny finches to majestic rheas. The parrots and macaws, including George the Umbrella Cockatoo, are known for their mimicry and entertaining interactions.

Visitors can also explore the Formal Gardens, where landscaped aviaries showcase smaller exotic birds, and hidden within the gardens, discover the Barn Owl in the Secret Garden.
