Wentworth Woodhouse is as one of the grandest stately homes in the country. Visitors can explore the principal rooms at their leisure as the House opens its doors to free-flow visits. Room Stewards are available to provide assistance with any queries, and a children’s activity sheet is provided for younger guests.
Wentworth Woodhouse boasts a total of 365 rooms, with the State Rooms accessible for exploration. The decision has been made to maintain the rooms’ intrinsic beauty rather than cluttering them with unoriginal items. Some of the State Rooms may appear dim as their shutters are closed, a measure taken to protect against UV damage, a common threat to Wentworth Woodhouse. As a Preservation Trust, the duty is to safeguard and conserve the House for future generations, and this includes the decision to close some shutters for the preservation of the rooms.
Although entry to the House is allocated on a time slot basis, visitors are granted all-day access to the Gardens, which open at 10.00 am. If late afternoon House admission is booked, it is encouraged to explore the Gardens first to maximize the visit’s experience.
Due to the age and nature of the house, disabled access to the upper floors, including some of the house’s free-flow visitor route, is not available.
Every pound spent during the visit directly contributes to the Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust, aiding in the restoration of this magnificent house and gardens.
For those looking to enhance their visit, the option of guided tours with experts is available. Details of all tours can be found on the What’s On page.
Wentworth Woodhouse’s gardens offer an abundance of delights. Visitors can explore a wildflower meadow, ancient trees, shaded woodland copses, and 18th Century follies. Families and garden enthusiasts alike can spend a day in the gardens, discovering hidden treasures across the 50-acre estate. Plus, there’s the choice to roam at leisure or follow a designated trail starting at the Stables and encompassing the West Terrace, Ha-Ha, South Terrace, Ionic Temple, and Camellia House.
Families with young explorers are warmly welcomed to participate in garden lawn games and enjoy picnics on the provided deckchairs. Well-behaved dogs are also permitted in the gardens but must be kept on a lead at all times. If visitors wish to explore the House in addition to the Gardens, they can consider purchasing one of the House & Gardens Tickets.
