JORVIK Viking Centre is a truly unique museum attraction, based in the heart of York, welcoming visitors since 1984.
The Coppergate dig uncovered extraordinarily well-preserved artefacts from Viking-era York and fascinated people around the world. Through these finds JORVIK continues to entertain, educate and celebrate the rich Norse heritage of York.
When you arrive, you will be greeted by interpretive staff, dressed as Vikings and with Viking names, who have a wealth of knowledge about Viking-age York.
JORVIK is fully accessible, with full wheelchair access, accessible height admissions desk, queue jump, Braille and large print guides, closed caption commentaries, hearing loops, and more.
The venue accepts MAX cards and other IDs so carers can visit for free with people with disabilities. An autism-friendly offer includes a visual story, so people with autism can prepare themselves for a visit; a traffic light sticker system, so you can self-select the level of engagement you or members of your party would like; a queue jump offer; staff trained in Autism Awareness; Autism Hour visits; and ear defenders to help with sensory overload.
York is probably the only city in the UK where an armed, costumed Viking can walk down the street without locals batting an eyelid! So, go and see it for yourself.
