500-Mile Classic Car Tour Launch from Robin Hood’s Bay

Robin Hood’s Bay will become the starting point for a new charity classic car tour this October, when the inaugural Loxley Collection 500 UK Roman Road Classic Vehicle Tour sets off on a 500-mile journey across Britain.

Taking place from 2 to 9 October, the classic car event will travel from Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire to Mullion on Cornwall’s Lizard Peninsula. The route will follow sections of Britain’s historic Roman road network while visiting towns, landscapes, attractions and independent hospitality businesses along the way.

Classic Cars Set to Depart from Robin Hood’s Bay

Drivers and passengers will gather at Hotel Victoria in Robin Hood’s Bay from the afternoon of Friday 2 October. Participants will have a three-course dinner accompanied by live music before beginning the journey the following morning.

On Saturday, the classic cars will leave the North Yorkshire coast and travel south across the North York Moors towards Lincoln, passing through areas including Pickering and Malton.

The departure will also provide an opportunity for residents, visitors and motoring enthusiasts to see the participating classic vehicles gathered against the coastal surroundings of Robin Hood’s Bay.

Roman Roads Lead the Classic Car Tour to Lincoln

Lincoln will provide the first major destination on the route. The cars will arrive at the White Hart Hotel in the city’s historic Bailgate area after completing the opening stage from North Yorkshire.

Much of this section will follow Ermine Street, one of Britain’s best-known Roman roads. The historic route passes through Lincoln and beneath Newport Arch, a surviving Roman gateway in the city.

On Saturday afternoon, participating vehicles are scheduled to appear in Castle Hill Square, situated between Lincoln Cathedral and Lincoln Castle. Drivers and passengers will later return to the White Hart Hotel for dinner and live music.

500-Mile Route from Yorkshire to Cornwall

The Loxley Collection 500 will continue through several parts of England as it makes its way towards the South West. The route will include:

• Robin Hood’s Bay and the North York Moors
• Pickering and Malton
• Lincoln and sections of Ermine Street
• Lincolnshire
• The Cotswolds
• Somerset
• Mullion and the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall

Throughout the journey, the itinerary combines historic roads and destinations with opportunities to visit local communities, attractions and independent hospitality businesses.

Final Classic Car Stage to Mullion in Cornwall

The final 155-mile stage will take participants from Somerset to Mullion, where the cars will arrive at the Polurrian Hotel.

Entrants will have the option of extending their stay in Cornwall by up to three nights. A planned 20-mile sightseeing procession will provide an additional opportunity to explore the Lizard Peninsula, taking in Mullion Cove, Cadgwith Cove, Lizard Village and Lizard Point, and Poldhu Cove.

Live music is also planned at the Polurrian Hotel on Thursday evening, while participants can choose to remain in Cornwall for the weekend.

Celebrating Classic Cars and Britain’s Roman Heritage

The Loxley Collection 500 has been created by Andrew Long, owner of Hotel Victoria and a classic car enthusiast with an interest in British history. Hotel Victoria forms part of The Loxley Collection, a portfolio of hotels located in historically significant and distinctive destinations.

The tour has been designed to connect classic motoring with Britain’s Roman and medieval heritage. Its itinerary also aims to encourage participants to spend time in the towns and destinations along the route, supporting independent hospitality businesses and local communities.

Long said Robin Hood’s Bay had been selected as the starting point because of its history, coastline and character. He added that the event was intended to showcase different parts of Britain’s visitor economy while giving participants opportunities to explore historic towns and landscapes.

Who Can Enter the Loxley Collection 500?

The classic vehicle tour is primarily open to owners of vehicles manufactured before 1976. Organisers will also consider exceptional sports cars and other vehicles of particular interest that are at least 25 years old.

There is no entry fee for the tour. Participants are instead encouraged to use the event as an opportunity to raise money for charities of their choice.
