Bees, Butterflies and Botany at Shire Brook Valley

As part of the Species Survival Fund project, a free family-friendly event will take place on Saturday 24th May 2025, offering an opportunity to discover more about pollinators at Shire Brook Valley Nature Reserve in Sheffield.

Visitors can collect a trail map from the Shire Brook Valley Visitor Centre before setting off to explore the reserve. The trail encourages participants to spot and identify a range of bees, butterflies and flowering plants throughout the site.

Activities on the Day

  • Use provided clipboards and art materials to sketch wildlife in its natural setting
  • Create leaf impression art inside the visitor centre
  • Discover practical ways to support bee populations
  • Try your hand at leaf bashing in the woodland area
  • Make a butterfly craft to take home

Attendees are welcome to bring a picnic and enjoy the green open spaces of the reserve following the activities.

Accessibility Information

Most areas of Shire Brook Valley are accessible, although some footpaths may be uneven. Suitable footwear is recommended. A free car park is available on Stone Lane near the visitor centre (postcode S13 7BR).

The visitor centre will be open from 11am to 2pm and refreshments will be available during this time.
