Leeds Cathedral will host a poignant concert by Darius Battiwalla, the Leeds City Organist, on Holocaust Memorial Day. This concert will feature a selection of classical music that conveys themes of reflection and resistance.

The concert will showcase performances of Felix Mendelssohn’s Sonata No 1 in F minor, Fela Sowande’s Go Down, Moses, Gerald Finzi’s Eclogue arranged by Robert Gower, Ethel Smyth’s Chorale Prelude & Fugue O Traurigkeit, O Herzeleid, and Percy Whitlock’s Sonata in C minor: Grave – Allegro. The first movement of Whitlock’s sonata provides a powerful and expressive finale, while other pieces such as Sowande’s impassioned setting and Finzi’s beautiful Eclogue add depth to this solemn occasion.
The concert will last approximately 50 minutes.
