The iconic Flying Scotsman is back in Yorkshire this autumn, operating a series of special journeys on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) as part of the Railway200 celebrations. In partnership with the National Railway Museum and Northern Steam Operations Ltd, these nostalgic steam services will run on 25th–29th October and 1st–5th & 8th–12th November 2025.
This is a rare opportunity to step aboard the most famous steam locomotive in the world. Enjoy a scenic return journey between Grosmont and Pickering through the heart of the North York Moors National Park, all while soaking in the sights, sounds and atmosphere of a bygone era.
With over two hours of immersive travel and the chance to explore heritage stations, browse railway-themed souvenirs, and sample refreshments along the route, it’s the perfect day out for families, steam enthusiasts and anyone with a love of history.

Visitors should arrive in plenty of time for their pre-booked departure at either 8:45am, 11:40am or 3:00pm.
There is car parking available at both Grosmont and Pickering stations, with staff on hand to assist with directions. Visitors using public transport can travel to the area via train services to Whitby or Malton, with local buses and taxis available to complete the journey. Wheelchair spaces are available on selected services, and it is recommended that visitors with accessibility needs enquire when booking. Each station has refreshments and toilet facilities, and the on-board service offers snacks and drinks throughout the journey. A variety of Flying Scotsman-themed souvenirs and exclusive memorabilia will be on sale at the station shops.
