The inaugural Holmfirth Children’s Book Festival brings two days of author-led events and family reading activities to Holmfirth Civic Hall. Aimed at children, young people and their families, the festival celebrates stories, sparks imagination and champions a lifelong love of books right in the heart of the Holme Valley.
Saturday 27 – Sunday 28 September 2025
Saturday: 10:00 – 19:30 | Sunday: 10:00 – 15:30
Created by local volunteers and run as a not-for-profit CIC, the festival blends community spirit with a high-impact programme designed to get children excited about reading. Expect a warm, welcoming atmosphere where families can discover new authors, try something creative and share stories together.
Backed by support from Longley Farm, One Community and Holme Valley Parish Council, and sponsored by Kip McGrath English and Maths Tutoring, the event aims to grow into a destination weekend for book lovers in the years ahead.
Most events are £3.50 for children and £5.00 for adults. The Festival Celebration at the end of the weekend is free of charge, but tickets are still required. Buying in advance is recommended to help with planning; limited on-the-door tickets may be available if events are not sold out.
Venue: Holmfirth Civic Hall, Huddersfield Road, Holmfirth, HD9 3AS. The hall is in the town centre with regular bus links to and from Huddersfield and surrounding villages. Town-centre parking is available nearby; allow extra time at busy periods. The venue offers step-free access and accessible facilities; contact the organiser ahead of your visit if you have specific access needs.
