Ferens Art Gallery invites visitors behind the scenes with Into the Stores, a rare chance to explore how artworks are cared for, stored and prepared for display. This engaging exhibition opens up the normally hidden world of the collection store, revealing paintings, drawings and sculptures in new contexts while uncovering stories not usually seen on the gallery walls. With the Ferens approaching its centenary in 2027, it’s also an opportunity to help shape ideas for future celebrations.

This exhibition offers a fresh way to experience the Ferens collection, with artworks shown on racks, in crates and out of frames to reveal the work that goes into caring for them. It’s a chance to encounter well-known favourites and rarely displayed pieces up close, while discovering the techniques, decisions and stories that shape how a gallery brings its collection to life.
Free entry for all visitors.
