Explore the rich history of women’s football in Hull through the lives of two legendary figures: Carol Thomas and Flo Bilton. The Lionesses of Hull exhibition offers a unique insight into the lives of these two pioneers who helped shape women’s football in the UK.
Tuesday 27 August 2024 – Sunday 23 February 2025
This exhibition will delve into the life and career of Carol Thomas, who served as an England defender from 1974 to 1985 and captained the national team from 1976 to 1985. Visitors will also learn about Flo Bilton, co-founder of the Women’s Football League, and her contributions to the growth of women’s football, including the formation of the Reckitt & Colman team where Carol began her career.
Alongside the exhibition, a special film will be commissioned, featuring interviews with women footballers from different generations in the local area. The film will explore their journeys into the sport, their motivations, and their personal experiences in a male-dominated field. This project aims to shed light on how women’s football has evolved and what it means to those who play it.
The exhibition takes place at the Streetlife Museum in Hull, an ideal venue to showcase the legacy of local legends in women’s football.
