National Garden Scheme Summer Opening at Goldsborough Hall

About

Date: Sunday, 22 June 2025

Time: 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Info

Goldsborough Hall will open its gardens on Sunday, 22nd June 2025, for the National Garden Scheme. The grounds in June are full of interest, and garden highlights include the Rose Garden, which is planted with old roses such as Old China Blush, Little White Pet, and Comte de Chambord, interplanted with lavender angustifolia ‘Old English’ and lined with lavender ‘Munstead’.

The beech hedges, originally planted during Princess Mary’s time, still stand today, with a sundial at the center— a gift to Princess Mary from the people of Horton, Oxon. The two 120-foot herbaceous borders, planted in 2006 in a Gertrude Jekyll style, feature a stunning array of plants including everlasting sweet peas, irises, helianthus, rudbeckia, and dahlias.

The grounds are also home to magnificent ancient trees, including a giant redwood, a rare sorbus, a pseudo acacia from the 1750s, and one of the oldest horse chestnuts in the country.

No visit to Goldsborough Hall’s gardens would be complete without a stroll along the quarter-mile Lime Tree Walk, planted by Royalty in the 1920s.

  • Free Garden Talks: 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM by the head gardener.
