Northern Antiques Fair Returns to Leyburn

The Northern Antiques Fair will return to The Garden Rooms and Cloisters at Tennants in Leyburn, North Yorkshire, from Thursday 8 to Sunday 11 October 2026.

Approximately 35 antiques and fine art dealers from Yorkshire and across the UK will exhibit at the four-day event, presenting collections spanning furniture, paintings, jewellery, watches, silver, ceramics, sculpture and decorative arts.

Antiques and Fine Art at Tennants in Leyburn

The Northern Antiques Fair traces its history to 1951, when the event was established in Harrogate. The 2026 edition marks its sixth consecutive year at The Garden Rooms at Tennants and will bring together specialist dealers offering pieces ranging from several hundred pounds to five-figure sums and above.

Five New Exhibitors Join the Northern Antiques Fair

Five dealers will make their debut at the 2026 fair. Fifties Art from Great Malvern will present works reflecting John Piper’s career from the 1930s to the 1980s, while Cheshire-based Holly Johnson Antiques will focus on 20th-century British craftsmen and designers, including signed furniture, Arts & Crafts objects, glass and lighting.

Scarab London will bring antique and vintage jewellery and watches, with Vaughan Antiques from Lincolnshire specialising in period jewellery. Chester’s Farm Gallery from Nottingham will exhibit ceramics, studio pottery and decorative arts.

Rare John Speed Atlas Offered for £70,000

Among the notable pieces appearing at the fair will be a complete John Speed atlas dating from 1616, presented by J Dickinson Maps & Prints and offered for sale in the region of £70,000.

The early Latin-text edition contains 67 engraved double-page maps in their original uncoloured condition and retains its original vellum binding. The atlas includes maps covering English and Welsh counties, Great Britain, Ireland, Wales and Scotland, providing a detailed representation of Britain during the early 17th century.

John Piper’s Yorkshire Works on Display

Fifties Art will exhibit a selection of John Piper works connected with Yorkshire. These include Conisbrough Castle, priced at £3,000, Fountains Abbey at £5,500 and Kirkham Priory Gateway at £3,500.

A more abstract depiction of Halifax from the 1960s will be offered for £2,500. Piper’s Northern Cathedral fabric design, created following a commission from Sanderson in 1960 and depicting Sheffield Cathedral, will be priced at £1,500.

Further fine art will be presented by dealers including Walker Galleries, Mark Rowles Fine Art, Granta Fine Art of Cambridge, Carnes Fine Art, Cambridge Fine Art, Berlin Walls Gallery and Chester’s Farm Gallery.

Arts & Crafts Furniture and Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson

Furniture and decorative arts will form another significant part of the fair. Holly Johnson Antiques will offer an Art Deco two-seater sofa from the Marianne Faithfull Collection, priced at £5,200.

Works connected with Arthur W Simpson and The Handicrafts workshop in Kendal will also feature. Breckland Antiques will exhibit a rare oak Arts & Crafts chair dating from around 1910 to 1915, incorporating a suspended cowhide seat and priced at £2,950. Solo Antiques will bring an Arthur W Simpson oak stick stand priced at £995, alongside other metalwork.

Visitors will also find examples of furniture and carving by Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson. Breckland Antiques will present an early two-door oak cupboard bearing the characteristic carved mouse and dated September 1931, priced at £4,950.

Carnes Fine Art will exhibit a Mouseman oak owl dating from around the 1960s and carved by Stan Dodds, who worked at the Mouseman workshop for more than five decades. The piece is priced at £8,950.

Furniture, Clocks and Decorative Antiques

Victorian and Edwardian inlaid furniture will be available from Mark Buckley Antiques, while Markies Antiques will focus on Art Deco and Art Nouveau furniture and decorative pieces. Ellis Fine Art will present a broader collection of antiques.

Clock specialist Frodsham Clocks will exhibit a small mantel timepiece dating from around 1840. Housed in a rosewood case and made by Frodsham of Gracechurch Street, London, the clock is priced at £5,500.

Walker Galleries will also present works including Katharine Holmes’ Weather Moving Over Sutton Bank, a watercolour, ink and pastel on paper measuring 28.5cm by 38cm and priced at £600.

Silver, Glass, Sculpture and Rugs

Visitors looking for decorative pieces will find glass from Alderney and Wright and Glass of all Ages, alongside silver from Stephen Kalms Antiques and Highland Antiques.

Garret & Hurst Sculpture will specialise in 19th and early 20th-century sculpture, while Morgan Strickland Decorative Arts will exhibit pieces associated with Liberty and Knox alongside bronzes, pewter, Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau objects. Oriental Rug Shop of Sheffield will offer rugs and carpets.

Hispanic Antiques will exhibit a pair of 16th-century French carved limestone classical figures, probably originating in Burgundy and possibly representing the Greek muses Euterpe and Urania. Measuring 39cm high and retaining traces of original polychrome with later parcel-gilt decoration, the pair will be offered for £4,400.

Antique and Vintage Jewellery

Jewellery will also feature prominently at the Northern Antiques Fair, with exhibitors including Vaughan Antiques, Howards Jewellers, Billy Rae, Markov, S Greenstein & Co Ltd, Scarab London and Shapiro & Co.

Among the pieces planned for the event are engagement rings from Howards Jewellers, including a cabochon-cut sapphire and brilliant-cut diamond ring dating from around 1970 and a ruby and diamond ring dating from approximately 1925.
