Northern Lights Leeds will return to Temple Newsam for Christmas 2026 with an entirely new festive experience, The Lost Light of Christmas. Running from Friday 20 November until Thursday 31 December 2026, the redesigned illuminated trail introduces an original story-led adventure combining light art, interactive features and immersive sound throughout the historic estate.
Following two successful festive seasons and attracting more than 100,000 visitors annually, the event has been reimagined with a fresh narrative designed to offer a different experience for returning and first-time guests alike.
The Lost Light of Christmas invites visitors to follow an enchanting trail through Temple Newsam’s grounds, helping a group of fairies restore the magical light of Christmas before it disappears forever. The one-mile route will lead guests through illuminated woodland, alongside sparkling lakes and through atmospheric installations, with hidden surprises waiting throughout the journey.
The experience features exclusive light installations created by leading UK light artists, alongside specially commissioned audio, interactive displays and theatrical effects designed to immerse visitors in the festive storyline.
In addition to the illuminated route, visitors can enjoy a range of seasonal attractions including:
To mark the launch of The Lost Light of Christmas, organisers are introducing a limited-time Kids Go Free promotion. Visitors purchasing an Off Peak Early Bird Adult ticket can claim up to two complimentary children’s tickets per booking, subject to availability.
Northern Lights Leeds will also host two neuro-inclusive evenings during the event. These sessions will operate with a 75% reduced visitor capacity and lower audio levels, providing a more comfortable experience for guests who may benefit from a quieter environment.
The Lost Light of Christmas forms part of the expanding portfolio of festive light trail experiences produced by From The Fields. Alongside Northern Lights Leeds, the company delivers Christmas events in Cardiff, Newcastle, Manchester and the newly announced Leicester trail, while also organising the award-winning Kendal Calling festival.
Tickets for The Lost Light of Christmas go on sale on Thursday 2 July 2026.
Further announcements, including details of featured light installations, Christmas Village traders, charity partnerships and additional event information, will be released in the coming months.
