One of the UK’s largest and most beloved literary festivals, Off the Shelf returns to Sheffield from 10 October to 10 November 2025. The month-long celebration of books, words and ideas will once again bring leading literary voices, cultural figures and performers to venues across the city.

Now in its 34th year, the 2025 programme features an exciting line-up of authors, poets, historians and entertainers, offering thought-provoking discussions, readings and performances.

  • 16 October: Feminist History for Every Day of the Year – Kate Mosse

  • 19 October: Not So Black and White – Kenan Malik
  • 1 November: Out of Character: From Abigail’s Party to Gavin and Stacey – Alison Steadman
  • 10 November: Bolsover Castle – Lucy Worsley
