Olivia Bax: Double Take brings together 20 new and recent sculptures at Yorkshire Sculpture Park‘s Weston Gallery. The exhibition showcases the artist’s distinctive approach to sculpture, combining welded steel, metal mesh, recycled paper pulp and reclaimed paint to create vibrant works that blur the boundaries between familiar objects and abstract forms.

Inspired by everyday observations, architectural features and personal memories, the exhibition explores themes of movement, perspective and transformation. Sculptures incorporate found materials including shopping trollies, musical instruments, kitchenware and wheels, encouraging visitors to look again at ordinary objects through unexpected combinations of colour, structure and scale.

Throughout the exhibition, Olivia Bax investigates ideas of transparency and shifting viewpoints. New sculptural screens extend into the gallery space, creating changing sightlines and framing other works from multiple angles. A central ramp installation, inspired by views of a London BMX park, further explores movement while challenging the relationship between sculpture, display and architecture.

Recycling and reuse remain central to the artist’s practice. Many sculptures are created using reclaimed paper and salvaged domestic paints that become an integral part of the work rather than simply a surface finish. Earlier sculptures have also been dismantled and reimagined, reflecting an ongoing process of renewal that questions traditional ideas of permanence within sculpture.
