Walkers are invited to explore Sheffield’s urban and rural landscapes while raising funds for Support Dogs, a national charity that helps people affected by autism, epilepsy and physical disability.
Support Dogs is encouraging participants to take on the well-known Sheffield Round Walk, either with or without a dog. The 24km circular route begins at Bingham Park and passes through parks, woodland, suburbs and areas close to the Peak District.
A shorter 5km route is also available, taking walkers to Forge Dam and back. This option is suitable for families and those looking for a less demanding walk.
Support Dogs was founded in Sheffield 34 years ago and trains specialist assistance dogs for autistic children, adults with epilepsy and people with physical disabilities. Funds raised from the event will help the charity continue its work supporting people to live with greater independence.
The 5km route includes Shepherd Wheel, Whiteley Woods and Forge Dam before returning to Bingham Park.
The 24km route continues beyond Forge Dam towards Ringinglow, Limb Brook Valley, Ecclesall Woods, Dore and Totley railway station, Ladies Spring Wood, Beauchief Abbey, Graves Park, Meersbrook Park, Brincliffe Edge Woods, Chelsea Park, Hunter’s Bar and Endcliffe Park.
Markers, checkpoints and marshals will be in place along the route. Participants can also enjoy cake at the finish, with doggy goody bags available for four-legged walkers.
