Pontefract Castle invites families to enjoy a cosmic adventure this February half term with the Solar System Site Trail. Running from 14 to 22 February 2026, this free activity encourages visitors to explore the castle grounds while uncovering fun facts about planets, stars and how medieval people understood the night sky.

This family-friendly trail is a fun and educational way to explore the castle while learning about our solar system. Children can pick up free trail sheets from the Gift Shop and follow clues around the site, discovering what medieval people believed about the cosmos along the way.
This is a free event and does not require booking.
The Solar System Site Trail runs across the castle grounds from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM daily. Families can collect trail sheets from the Gift Shop and enjoy a relaxed, self-guided exploration at their own pace.
Pontefract Castle is wheelchair accessible and welcomes assistance dogs. Some outdoor areas may include uneven ground, so comfortable footwear is advised.
