The Wizard Walk of York brings spellbinding magic, comedy and family fun to the historic streets of the city. Created especially for children but designed for all ages to enjoy, this award-winning tour begins at St Crux Church on the Shambles and leads families on an enchanting journey through York’s most characterful corners. Led by Phoenix the Red or Viridian the Green, it’s a light-hearted alternative to traditional ghost walks, packed with laughter, interaction and magical surprises.
This five-star experience has earned global recognition, including TripAdvisor’s award for Best Family Attraction in the World. It promises a joyful and imaginative adventure through York, inviting children to help search for magical creatures, cast spells and enjoy interactive storytelling. With iconic landmarks as the backdrop, it’s a brilliant way for families to explore the city together.
The tour avoids anything spooky, making it ideal for younger visitors. At the end of the walk, families can take photos with the Wizard — a lovely keepsake from a wonderfully whimsical day out.
Tickets cost £12 for adults and £12 for children aged 3–17. Babies and children under 3 go free. Wizard Wand Kits are available for £6 as an optional extra.
Tours begin outside St Crux Church at the bottom of the Shambles, York. The city centre is well served by buses and is a 15-minute walk from York Railway Station. Allow time to navigate the busy streets, especially at weekends. Each tour follows a circular route and finishes close to the starting point.
