Join life model and poet Sue Vickerman for an engaging life drawing session, held amidst her curated exhibition, Translating the Body. These untutored sessions invite participants to explore life drawing techniques and themes related to the female body in a supportive, non-judgemental environment.
Translating the Body is an exhibition that challenges traditional roles within art photography by placing the model in a position of creative control. Curated by Sue Vickerman herself, the exhibition showcases six translations of the same female form, derived from modelling sessions with renowned artists including Ann Evans, Ashwin Vyas, Michael Kilyon, Lois Brothwell, Phil Moody, and sculptor Judith Glynn. Each work addresses themes of agency, representation, and the power dynamic between photographer and subject.
Please note, access to the event space is limited as it is held on the second floor of The Folly, which currently lacks wheelchair access. Entry to the museum involves three uneven steps, and entry to the coffee house has four uneven steps with handrails. Toilets, including accessible facilities, are available on the ground floor.
This event is exclusively for women, and anyone who identifies as a woman is welcome. A gender-inclusive life drawing session will also be available on Monday, 2nd December.
Food is available for purchase at The Folly Coffee House, located on the premises.
The Folly does not have dedicated parking. However, several public car parks are available nearby:
